What has Ploning been waiting ages for?
a. the love of her life who will never return
b. the end of the world
c. politicians’ promises to come true
d. mail from the Philippine post office
If you’re familiar with the story of Ploning, you know the answer is letter “a”. I feel a lot like her except that I’ve been waiting for the postman instead. There’s nothing special about the dude. I just want to get the training DVD package I’ve been waiting for for two years.
I’m not the only one with postal service issues. One of my friends who applied for the Ateneo graduate school got his letter of acceptance three months too late, while a relative never got jewelry sent by her fiance.
Letters and packages seem to get lost so often in the post office that if Tinkerbell, who collects lost things, were to visit Philippine shores, she’d probably find an abundance of lost mail and packages.

I suppose it was much worse in the past. Wasn’t there an urban legend once (used to scare truant children) of otherworldly creatures that frequent mail rooms? These beings looked a lot like post office employees too except that they had claws to slash through envelopes and hooked noses to sniff for freshly minted dollars. Interestingly, they had an abundant supply of scotch tape for repairing slash marks.
People were once so scared of these creatures that relatives abroad devised greeting cards with secret pockets to cleverly store and prevent the loss of green money. Harry Potter couldn’t have devised a better spell for mail protection.
Real or perceived issues with the postal service aren’t helping to preserve an institution already threatened by Internet technology. I dare say post office personnel have helped place themselves on the list of endangered species right next to the Philippine Eagle and sea turtles.
Next time someone wants to send me anything I’d be sure to suggest that he send it through special courier.
I totally agree with you, mails in this side of the world takes forever. They should at least find a way to shorten the time a mail reaches its recipient or else it's really gonna be the end of the post mail industry.
Its sad that these things happens in our postal services that's why even if its a bit expensive I use the big courier service company =)
Maybe it's time for the government to give attention to postal office system. Make necessary changes and do everything to alleviate the services.
The birth of online communication should have been one major reason for mails from post office be delivered on time. This is very disappointing indeed.
As the name goes snail mails. I've heard from reliable sources that mails specially those with valuable items like money are being 'chop-chop' sa post office mismo by unscrupulous persons.
Snail mails still work. It takes a while but it's cheap. If the mail's not urgent at all, I wouldn't mind the wait.
I guess my letters come to me all the time (on-time even) since none of the envelopes bare any monetary funds.. hehe! But on a serious note, sending stuff these days can be more convenient and hassle-free (say worry-free as well) when done via a different courier.
It is a pity that our postal service still remains in a very sorry state.

aww!!! our literally snail mails. i remember when it was the only way of communication (aside from telegram) when I was younger. good thing so many things got electronic. but when it comes to sending and receiving packages, you really have to wait fro ages in our system. 🙁
Yup, true. Maybe that's the reason why they call it snail mail, but communication nowadays are changing and evolving rapidly – its still good to know if you can send a hearts n'flowers letters to someone. 🙂
To secure things, I must suggest use a big name of courier companies to take good care of your stuffs.
Post office is not to be trusted eversince ,especial package are mostly gone. yeah ,better use courier.
This is true. Reality bites indeed. We cannot trust anymore our PHIL. POSTAL nowadays. I had bad experience with them not once but thrice, my father sends letters to his family at Leyte every month. I registered mail it because it contains money. Two weeks had passed my uncle from Leyte called and he confirms that he received a letter from us but no money inside. To make the story short, we sue Phil. Postal for their negligence.
I actually do like the postal service we have in the Philippines. I haven't had a bad experience with them, I suppose (and I hope this continues). If packages are very important, then yes, a special courier would have to be the way.
Yeah your right! we also have the same problem with them.. when my father from abroad sent us some small box of package.. and we never recieved anything.
